CSF QC Assay
Essential quality control assay for Cerebrospinal Fluid samples
Proteome Science’s QC CSF assay is a sensitive and secure way to assess the integrity of patient cerebrospinal fluid samples. Samples are analyzed for signs of protein breakdown products, and blood or microbial contamination that could compromise the validity of biomarker testing and undermine clinical research programs.
Collection of CSF is highly invasive, often unpleasant for patients, requires expert medical practitioners and is expensive. However, it is the closest accessible sample for human CNS disorders and is widely used in research and clinical management of such diseases. During collection CSF can easily be contaminated with blood, which has 100-fold higher protein concentrations, or by microrganisms that secrete highly active proteases. This can seriously compromise the value of an individual sample and, if not recognised prior to analysis, can compromise an entire research project.
In clinical practice, sample integrity is essential for accurate and meaningful results in prognostic and diagnostic assays. The chain of custody prior to analysis is thus a potential concern for human CSF samples.
To address these concerns Proteome Sciences has developed The CSF QC Assay, a simple mass spectormetry test that offers assurance and confidence that samples have been collected, stored and shipped correctly in accordance with the rigid protocols required for such highly valuable samples.
